I object to violence because when it appears to do good,
the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.

TAPS:

Remember in your prayers, Joan Duffy Newberry, a true sister, comrade and world citizen, who passed peacefully in her home at 6 p.m. Nov. 16th 2006. For those of us who held the honor of knowing her, the world is diminished by her absence. In her memory Wage Peace.

Veterans for Peace is a national organization founded by men and women who have served their country in times of peace as well as during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf War and who now seek to serve by helping our nation move toward peace and justice rather than war and exploitation.

In August 2002, the Santa Fe Chapter of VFP (Chapter 55 -- now known as "The Joan Duffy Chapter") became the second chapter in New Mexico. The Albuquerque chapter did an outstanding job of hosting the 2001 national convention.

Ten founding members, who have now been joined by over 150 more, established this chapter to bring the special perspective (and credibility) of veterans to the work being done by allied organizations such as Peace Action, the Los Alamos Study Group and others in the area. Non-veterans may become associate members and in many cases become important workers in the movement.

National dues are $25 per year, but special arrangements can be made on request from veterans for whom that sum would be a bar to membership. There are no local dues, but all our events are self-funded, so tax-deductable donations to Veterans for Peace - Santa Fe Chapter are gratefully accepted.
